Great Wedding Advice For You

by Ciara Daykin

Before going on to give some wonderful wedding advice, I would like to share my best moment during a wedding. It's the time when the newly-weds have their first dance. As I look at them all happy and glowing, I am relieved that everything has gone as well as planned and the stars of the night are finally married.

A Million Moving Pieces To Coordinate

When I plan a wedding as you can imagine there are a million moving pieces coming together to create the overall experience. Especially when I plan really big weddings I have to really be on top of what's going on with each element that makes up the wedding to ensure that everything is going in the right direction.

"What is your best wedding advice for pulling off a grand wedding?" Now this is a question which I am often asked, especially in a scenario of a big wedding. Now if it were that simple I would have been able to give an answer in a few words. But it isn't really. I think the best way to understand this point is if we compare a big wedding to a big movie. There are certain elements that are necessary to make a movie a success. And the same elements are necessary to make a big wedding a success. Here are the elements which are ESSENTIAL to planning a grand wedding:

1. HIRE a Wedding Planner - This is one of the best pieces of wedding advice I can give. In a big wedding, there are a lot of people who need to be taken care of. You don't have the time and energy to do it all on your own. So let someone else do it for you.

2. You Are The Star, You Need A Great Director - When you're trying to pull off a mega wedding, especially if it's in a unique or nontraditional location, do not go shopping for a wedding planner on the clearance rack. You need someone that has a strong team, great experience and also someone that has the confidence to handle what you're looking for. A great wedding planner lets their couple shine.

3. Hire someone you can Bond with - If the star of the movie and the director don't understand each other or can't see eye-to-eye, then the movie is bound to be a failure. So take my wedding advice and hire a wedding planner you can easily connect with. Remember you will be spending a lot of your time with your wedding planner, so make sure that it is someone who understands you and who you understand.

4. A Good Team with Supporting Cast - Yes, your supporting cast are the members of your bridal party and your parents. They need to exactly know what's going to happen at the wedding. Make sure they understand that they need to give their full support in this grand affair.

5. The Crew Needs To Be Tight- A wedding is only as good as the people putting it together and you really need to make sure that your vendors are top notch, that they are aligned with your vision and that they are aligned with each other for optimum teamwork.

6. The Script Must Be Flawless- You need to be incredibly organized. Each member of the team needs an event binder filled with every piece of information possible, including an itinerary. A schedule showing where each member of the bridal party and each vendor is going to be each hour is a must. That way if anyone has a question, your planner has the answer. To pull off something like this, organization is essential.

Whatever your ideas may be for your wedding, you must clearly understand what they are and how and where you want to accomplish them. It doesn't really matter whether you want a small wedding or a big one. But when you sit down to plan your wedding, you need to make sure that all the wheels are perfectly aligned and working smoothly. So take my wedding advice and get the perfect wedding for yourself.

10 Easy Steps To Have A Successful Wedding Reception

by Karen Taylor

For most people, the wedding and reception are once-in-a-lifetime event. But, because it's once-in-a-lifetime, most people have little to no experience in planning them. Here are a few helpful hints you can use to get started:

1. Assign your key person. Vitally important for this special occasion, assigning a key person to attend through all the wedding details can provide a big relief on the part of both the bride and the groom. A reliable key person ensures that everything is well taken cared of from the schedule, reception, location, caterer, music, bakery, florist, limo driver, and wedding party down to the guests.

2. Pre-plan & have a checklist. Use that back-up person and make sure details are not overlooked on that special day. There are so many to remember, you'll want to make sure nothing gets left behind so write up a list. It can be as simple as a small notebook that you carry in your purse, adding details as they come up in your planning.

3. Avoid micro-managing, delegate! Beyond your main person, it is normal for different members of both families to manage different aspects of the wedding and reception. If you have 30 items to manage and 30 individuals to each manage one thing, all you have to do is check in with your people! You are now the project manager instead of the micro-manager!

4. Hire proven professionals and secure your date with a deposit. From your flowers to wedding cake to caterer to music, look for recommendations or testimonials from previous clients. You don't want to discover the horrors of hiring a "wanna be" for your special day!

5. Pamper yourself. The wedding, like any other important occasions, will demand most of your time. It can inevitably drain your energy and stress you out. Ease yourself of stress by relaxing, taking long walks, or enjoying a good body massage, whichever you think will put you into a more relaxed frame of mind. You can also invite your bridesmaids and family members to make it more fun.

6. Double check. Even though you have all your ducks in a row well in advance, allow yourself approximately one hour (more or less depending on wedding size and details) to make some last minute phone calls. This should be approximately 1-2 weeks in advance. This gives a bit of time in case anything needs to be adjusted or corrected.

7. Ensure that the rings are safe. Funny as it may sound, wedding rings are among the ones that need to be secured. Because of their size, they are vulnerable to being lost or getting misplaced especially if little ring bearers had to handle them.

8 Keep receipts & records. This is a great task for one responsible person. Then on the big day, you can quickly and easily determine who's been paid & how much is still owed, and can also serve to keep track of your memories going forward.

9. Security. Some couples prefer their wedding held in one place but there are also some who prefer having it in several locations. In any case, make sure that security is assured if ever some items are left in a particular venue. With the numerous concerns to be attended in a wedding, it seems easy to lose focus and concentration even if you are the most organized person on earth!

10. Give thank you notes or tokens. Get your thank you notes printed weeks before the wedding. Anyway, you have bridesmaids around to help on this particular task. Guests and those involved in your wedding will be pleased to receive a small token from you. Lastly, thank you notes can serve as a memento on your big day.
